UTICA -- A Utica man was arrested twice in just three weeks for a number of charges including felony burglary and possession of prescription drugs.
Utica Police say an officer pulled over Jose Polanco, 37, on April 3 for a traffic violation in the area of Bleecker Street. The officer found that Polanco was driving with a suspended license and charged him with several traffic violations.
The officer took him into custody and then found Polanco to be in possession of Alprazolam, commonly referred to as a Xanax, outside of the prescription bottle. Polanco was charged with misdemeanor criminal possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor controlled substance outside of original container.
On Tuesday, officers in Utica responded to a report of a burglary in the 1200 block of Lincoln Avenue. Police found that the house was the recent site of a fire and that there was plywood and copper piping missing. Witnesses provided police with a description of the suspect and vehicle.
Police arrested Polanco near the Empire Recycling on North Genesee Street where they spotted a car that matched the witness’ description.
Police found that Polanco had a receipt for $69.11 in copper piping on him.
Polanco was charged with petit larceny and third degree burglary, a felony.
