SYRACUSE (AP) -- A Central New York mail carrier and her husband have admitted to making false statements in order for her to get more than $300,000 in federal workers compensation benefits.
Federal prosecutors in Syracuse say 41-year-old Tracey Raponi and 56-year-old Gale Raponi of Martville in northern Cayuga County pleaded guilty earlier this week to charges stemming from their defrauding of the federal government out of more than $326,000.
Tracey Raponi was employed as a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service in Fulton in neighboring Oswego County.
Officials she was collecting workers compensation while working for a dog breeding and boarding business owned by her husband.
The couple faces five years in prison and a $250,000 fine when they're sentenced in September.
