SYRACUSE -- The Syracuse City School Board is moving forward with more drastic cutbacks.

Thursday night, the board approved cutting an additional $6.5 million from the 2012-2013 budget. That means an additional 41 layoffs, bringing the total layoffs to 86.

Union leaders pleaded with school administrators to spare the job prior to the vote.

The school cites less state aid as a factor in the cutbacks.

The school board's approval still must be finalized. It will go to the Syracuse City Council and Mayor Stephanie Miner's office.
