'Don't panic' says study's author

A new study, just published online in Cancer, says that frequent dental x-rays may be linked to more brain tumors.

The study looked at people who had routine bitewing, full-mouth and panorex dental x-rays, and found an increased incidence of intracranial meningionoma, which are usually benign.

SUNY Upstate Psychologist Richard O'Neill, who brought the April 10th publication to our attention, says the study is a good opening to review --with your dentist---the risk and benefit of x-rays, and when to get them.

'Don't panic, don't stop seeing the dentist' says the study's author, but look at the guidelines and discuss with your dentist.
