Local doctor sentenced for driving drunk and hitting pedestrian in Salina

SYRACUSE -- A local doctor charged in a drunk driving collision that left a homeless man critically injured was sentenced in Onondaga County Court Monday morning. 

66-year-old Dr. Frank Vogel, of Franklin Square, pleaded guilty to first degree vehicular assault . He was sentenced to six month jail time and five years probation.

Vogel allegedly had a blood alcohol content of .20 percent when he hit 32-year-old Jason Farnham while driving on Onondaga Lake Parkway.

Vogel was a doctor at Upstate University Hospital. Upstate University Hospital previously released a statement saying "Dr. Vogel is no longer employed at Upstate and does not work at Upstate University Hospital. His employment here ended on Aug. 22. His employment status is unrelated to the incident giving rise to his arrest this weekend."
