SYRACUSE -- A Syracuse man allegedly tried to sell a gun at the Regional Farmers Market in Syracuse.
The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office says 32-year-old Ronald Cottell, also known as Ronald Euson, was arrested for attempting to sell a .25 caliber handgun at the Central New York Regional Farmers Market.
The Sheriff’s Office says that around 5:15am Sunday, before the market opened for business, witnesses notified deputies that Cottell was trying to sell a handgun to vendors at the market.
Deputies say they confronted Cottell, located the gun, and arrested him without incident.
Detectives working on a separate burglary case from March had released surveillance video of the incident at a VanBuren storage unit. Detectives say they got a number of anonymous tips that identified Cottrell as a potential suspect.
When detectives interviewed Cottell about his alleged attempt to sell a gun at the market, they also charged him with 51 counts of third degree burglary, criminal mischief, grand larceny, trespass and other charges.
Cottell is accused of breaking into four storage facilities between November 2010 and March 2012. The Sheriff’s Office reports that Cottell broke into Public Storage on Oswego Road, Store More Pay Less on Van Buren Road, B & C Storage on West Entry Road, and Uncle Bob’s Storage on Thompson Road.
Cottrell was arraigned in the City of Syracuse Criminal Court and the Town of Clay Court and is being held without bail at the Onondaga County Justice Center.
Charges from both incidents landed Cottell with a long list of charges that include: criminal possession of a weapon, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, one count of criminal sale of a firearm, 51 counts of third degree burglary, 52 counts of possession of burglar tools, 51 counts of degree criminal mischief in varying degree, 9 counts of grand larceny in varying degree, five counts of petit larceny, and one count of trespassing.
