SYRACUSE -- A supposed routine traffic stop turned into a large drug bust for police Thursday evening.
According to Syracuse Police, around 6:53 p.m. two officers say they saw a 2003 Audi backing up unsafely on the 300 block of South Avenue. The officers say they pulled the car over on Tallman Street, and one officer reports smelling alcohol on the breath of the driver, identified as Charles Green of Syracuse.
Police say that upon further investigation they found what appeared to be “crack” cocaine on the floor of the driver’s side, and 17 ounces of crack and an undisclosed amount of cash inside the car. The crack has an estimated street value of just less than $50,000.
Police say Green has been charged with the following offenses:
- Felony first degree criminal possession of a controlled substance
- Felony third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance
- Seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance
- Criminal use of drug paraphernalia
- Felony driving while intoxicated
- Felony aggravated DWI
- Felony DWI with a blood alcohol content above .08
- Traffic tickets
Green was taken to the Onondaga County Justice Center jail pending arraignment in Syracuse City Court on Friday.
