TRIANGLE, BROOME CO. (AP) -- Broome County Sheriff David Harder says a 61-year-old man tied up his wife and made her watch from a car outside before he shot his 3-year-old daughter, set his house on fire, and shot himself.
It happened in the town of Triangle, 17 miles north of Binghamton, Saturday night. Harder says Larry Oney and his daughter, Allison, died of smoke inhalation and also had gunshot wounds. He says Oney took the actions after his wife, 39-year-old Melissa Oney, said she wanted a divorce.
Harder says Mrs. Oney freed herself from the neckties that bound her and drove for help. When deputies arrived, Harder said the house was engulfed in flames and ammunition was exploding in the fire.
The deaths were listed as a murder and suicide.
