Garden is a great 'photo op' spot
Hope for Bereaved's Butterfly Garden is about to renew itself: Noon on Memorial Day has become its re-dedication time, and this year they're celebrating 20 years for the Onondaga Lake Parkway landmark.
The garden--in the shape of a butterfly, which is Hope for Bereaved's symbol--was originally planned as a place for people to commemorate loved ones who've died elsewhere. It still does that, with commemorative brick pathways, but it's also become a place for weddings, and prom pictures, and baptisms.
The garden is open year 'round, though it's in the summer when it gets most visitors, and workers. An army of dedicated volunteers weed, water and trim to keep it looking good.
Hope for Bereaved has more information on programs, and the garden. Volunteers are always welcome! You can also reach them at 475-9675.
Monday's ceremony, free to watch, will include singing by the Spirit of Syracuse chorus. It starts at noon, at the garden, which is across from the Ste. Marie Museum on the Onondaga Lake Parkway.
