SYRACUSE -- A statewide anti-fracking group, New Yorkers Against Fracking, assembled this afternoon at the Syracuse DEC Office to rally to pressure legislators to move forward with fracking ban legislation.

This rally follows yesterdays press report that Gov. Cuomo may be moving towards allowing fracking in some parts of the state. Many different advocates of anti-fracking spoke as others waved signs against fracking. Some cars beeped their horns as they drove by, which was followed by cheers from the group.

Cuomo's reported plan would include southern tier counties like Broome, Chenango, Steuben and Tioga, and included the fact that the Cuomo administration would allow hydrofracking on a limited basis only in towns that wanted to, which caused a stir in some people.

"All of New York needs to be protected," Joan Koster, a Whitney Point resident, says. "He can't just decide that some places aren't as valuable."
