ONEIDA, MADISON CO. -- An Oneida man is under arrest after police say he crashed into a tree while high on bath salts.

Oneida City Police tell CNY Central that on Thursday afternoon around 4:20 police were called to the scene of a motor vehicle accident on South Willow Street near Lincoln Avenue. Police say when they arrived they found that 32-year-old Craig S. Revette of Peterboro Street in Vernon had been headed south on South Willow when he crossed over the middle of the road and struck a tree at the intersection with Lincoln.

Upon investigation, officers say they determined that Revette had been smoking 'bath salts' and was under the influence of the synthetic drug when he was involved in the crash.

Revette has been charged with failure to keep right and reckless driving for "allegedly unreasonably endangering other users of the highway by driving while his ability was affected by bath salts a substance known to cause unpredictable and unstable behavior."

Police say Revette will appear in Oneida City Court at a later date to answer the charges.

This incident comes in the same week that Madison County officials announced the formation of a task force to combat the use of synthetic drugs in the county, and an effort to ban all synthetic drugs in the county in advance of similar proposed state and federal legislation.
