CAMILLUS, NY -- A fire at a Camillus apartment complex leaves eight families homeless Sunday evening.
The call came in as a structure fire around 8:00 p.m. on Chicopee Mews.
Camillus Fire Chief Doug Groesbeck says flames were sparked by a problem with a first floor air conditioning unit.
Everyone got out of the building safely, no firefighters were injured.
The Red Cross is assisting the eight families displaced by the fire.
Its not the first major fire at the complex. In 2008, a Camillus police officer won several awards for going into a burning apartment at Chicoppe Mews and making sure that no one was inside.
