TOWN OF GEDDES -- Fire crews battled a commercial garage fire in Lakeland late Thursday night.

Firefighters responded to the fire at 929 State Fair Boulevard around 9:30 p.m. A column of thick black smoke could be seen from Syracuse and the area's western and northern towns.

The photo to the right was sent in by a CNY Central viewer, taken from Onondaga Lake Park in Liverpool, across Onondaga Lake.

Syracuse.com reports one firefighter was overcome by heat and required medical attention at the scene.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
