PHOENIX -- A local bartender gave away more than $1,000 of free food and drinks in one 8-hour shift, including more than 270 shots of top shelf liquor, and 17 orders of chicken wings.
Michael Monto, 25, is charged with Grand Larceny. The Syracuse man was tending bar at the Lock One Club in Phoenix on Saturday, June 16.
That night, a bar patron tipped off the owners Monto was giving away ample free food and drinks.
Upon reviewing cash register receipts and credit card receipts, Phoenix police found Monto rang up only $280.00 in sales that night, but racked up bills totaling $1350.00.
That included more than 270 shots of top shelf liquor, 13 well shots, 16 free beers, soda, water, energy drinks.
Credit card receipts also showed a disproportionally high amount of tips, compared with what was charged to the cards.
Monto was hired in May, and worked four shifts before June 16. He was given explicit instructions not to give away free drinks while working.
Monto is scheduled to answer to the Grand Larceny charge Wednesday, July 11th in the Town of Schroppel Court.
