BEAVER DAMS, SCHUYLER COUNTY (AP) -- Authorities say a man has been killed in an accident involving a garbage disposal device in central New York.

The sheriff's office in Chemung County, on the Pennsylvania border, tells the Start-Gazette of Elmira that the accident occurred Monday afternoon in the hamlet of Beaver Dams, just across the line in southern Schuyler County. 

Police say it appears a man who either worked for, ran or owned a garbage disposal operation was involved in an accident with machinery that picks up and dumps garbage into trucks.

Authorities say the man was died after being pinned under or between parts of the machinery.

The victim's name, age and hometown haven't been released.
