The Olympic dream for an individual medal is over for Cazenovia's Beezie Madden, after she and her horse, Coral Reef Via Volo, were eliminated in the first round of jumping on Saturday morning.

Two American riders, McClain Ward and Rich Fellers, were clear in the first round.  The fourth US team member, Reed Kessler, jumped without knocking down obstacles but went slower than the allowed time. Madden is quoted on the US Equestiran Team website that she's disappointed to be out of the running for an individual medal, but that she hopes to defend the team gold.

Round two is tomorrow and the best 45 individual riders (including those tied for 45th place), based on combined scores from both rounds, and the best eight teams (including those teams tied for eighth place), based on scores from this round only, progress to the third round.
