OSWEGO -- A Lycoming teen died in a swimming accident in Lake Ontario.

The Oswego Fire Department says it responded to a person in the water in distress on Thursday in the area of the former Sheldon Beach, in the western area of the City of Oswego.

The person was later identified as 19-year-old Victor O. Woolson, of Lycoming.

Officials say the fire department deployed its rescue boat "Beau" and sent units to the shoreline. They spotted Woolson floating about 20 yards from the shore around 8:19 p.m. and pulled him from the water.

Oswego Police say Woolson was taken to the Oswego Hospital. Woolson died on Friday afternoon.

Police say the circumstances surrounding the drowning are still under investigation.
