WATERTOWN (AP) -- State health and environmental officials plan to meet with community leaders in Watertown over concerns about toxic chemicals at a former industrial site.
The Watertown Daily Times reports that a small group will meet Thursday behind closed doors with representatives from the departments of Health and Environmental Conservation about the former New York Air Brake site.
In 2008, state environmental officials found unacceptable levels of the industrial solvent trichloroethylene, or TCE, used at the Air Brake facility in four on-site buildings and at a local home. TCE is a carcinogen that also might cause nerve disorders.
Some local residents want the state to conduct more tests amid fears of a health risk.
