CANANDAIGUA (AP) -- Police say two people have been killed in a head-on collision between a car and a pickup truck pulling a horse trailer in western New York.

Ontario County Sheriff Philip Povero tells local media outlets the crash happened at about 2:00 p.m. Wednesday when the car veered into oncoming traffic in Canandaigua.

He says a man and woman in the car were killed. Povero says truck driver was has been taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries that aren't life-threatening. There were no animals in the trailer.

The names of the victims won't be released until relatives are notified. The investigation of the wreck is continuing.

Canandaigua is 26 miles southeast of Rochester.
