SYRACUSE (AP) -- A former federal official who had been accused of shoplifting won't do any jail time after pleading guilty to disorderly conduct.

Jill Harvey's lawyer tells the Syracuse Post-Standard she was in court Tuesday in Syracuse to resolve what he says was a misunderstanding.

She was originally charged with misdemeanor petit larceny after the owner of a Syracuse salon said she was caught putting several bottles of hair care products and a bracelet in a bag without intending to pay for them.

The 55-year-old Harvey resigned as director of the Department of Agriculture's Office of Rural Development in New York after she was charged. The office administers $100 million in programs.

She was sentenced to a one-year conditional discharge and must pay a $120 court surcharge.
