FORT DRUM -- Following a report of a child left alone in a car, police at Fort Drum arrested the mother for using an electrical cord and switch to punish the child.

State Police say a report of a child left alone inside a car was reported to the Jefferson County Child Protective Services on Tuesday.

The child was reportedly left alone in the car by his mother for about half an hour on Fort Drum.

Police say Child Protective Services noticed that the child had visible injuries and interviewed the child. The child told police that his mother had used an electrical cord and switch to punish him.

Police arrested the child’s mother, Brandi M. Rodriquez-Norton, 28, who admitted to hitting the child and causing the injuries.

Rodriquez-Norton was charged with assault and endangering the welfare of a child. She was arraigned and committed to the Public Safety Building in lieu of $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond.
