SYRACUSE -- About 80 members of the New York Army National Guard's 2nd Battalion, 108th Infantry Regiment, returned to their New York Army National Guard armory from deployment to Afghanistan on Wednesday.
The soldiers returned to the United States and completed demobilization tasks at Camp Shelby in Mississippi last week.
Soldiers from the 2nd Battalion and from Company C of the 427th Brigade Support Battalion were deployed as Task Force Iron to Afghanistan in January.
They were in Afghanistan to carry out a security mission at army bases around the country. The soldiers were responsible for enhancing the capability of Afghan National Security Forces to secure a highway and to help train Afghani police as part of the American troop drawdown plan.
This is the second arrival of 2nd Battalion troops arriving home from Afghanistan this week, with over 200 arriving home.
