SCRIBA, OSWEGO CO. -- A Scriba family is being honored for their efforts in saving three people when their boat overturned this summer.

It happened August 5 on Sandy Pond in northern Oswego County.

15-year-old Julia Lavery was watching a storm move over the pond when she spotted the capsized boat. Lavery's father Michael and her 14-year-old sister Michele went out on a jet ski to see if they could help. They later learned a 13-year-old boy and 7-year-old girl had been tossed in the water when the boat flipped over. They were safe with their grandfather, but were scared from their time in the water. All three were brought safely to shore.

At a recent Scriba Town board meeting, Michael, Julia and Michele were presented awards for their quick response to the incident.
