SYRACUSE -- Twenty-seven World War Two veterans landed Saturday night at Hancock Airport after taking a very special flight. They were flown to Washington D.C. this morning for a free day trip to see the war memorials.

It was the first trip for Honor Flight Syracuse, which will begin flying veterans to D.C. to visit the memorials.

For those veterans on the first flight, it was special. "Words hardly can express it," said Donald Newsholme. "I mean, it touched my heart."

"[It was] really a wonderful experience," said Charles Trabold. "Everything was handled so well, and so many volunteers."

The Syracuse branch is the newest of many Honor Flight hubs across the country. The organization focuses on World War Two veterans or those who are terminally ill, and sends them on the flights for free.
