SYRACUSE -- Syracuse Firefighter Lieutenant Beth Cousins was honored Wednesday afternoon by Onondaga County for her commitment to fire safety education.
"I’m very proud of Lieutenant Cousin’s achievement," said Syracuse Mayor Stephanie A. Miner in a release. "It is because of hard working individuals committed to public safety we are able to prevent fires in our community."
Lt. Cousins was honored with the Boynton Award for a fire safety video education program she created for the Syracuse City School District. The ceremony was held at the McMahon-Ryan House.
"Innovative thinking is needed in any organization to continue to flourish. Lt. Beth Cousins has been instrumental in keeping the public safe from the ravages of fire," said Chief Mark McLees in a release. "Her efforts in education are tireless, and her idea to create a multi-lingual video meets the needs of our every growing diverse population in the City of Syracuse."
The award is named after Chief Hank Boynton, a 30 year veteran of the Syracuse Fire Department, who led programs aimed at reducing juvenile fire setting.
