Two women with ties to Central New York are now Saints in the Roman Catholic Church.

In a ceremony that lasted two and a half hours, the Pope canonized Mother Marianne Cope, a Franciscan nun who llived in Utica and founded Syracuse's St. Joseph's Hospital before going to Hawaii to minister to lepers,  and Kateri Tekawitha, a Mohawk girl who started her life in what is now Fonda, and is now the first Native American saint.
