SYRACUSE -- As thousands of people downstate deal with the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, the American Red Cross is overwhelmed by the need. Now, they are searching for more volunteers to help.

Right now, thousands of Red Cross disaster workers are on the front lines of the disaster. They have set up shelters across multiple states to help those in need.

The Central New York Chapter will hold a special volunteer training for people interested in helping.

The class will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, November 3 at the Red Cross Central New York Chapter. It is located at 220 Herald Place in Syracuse.

If you are interested, you need to be able to leave immediately after the Saturday training. You also need to commit to a two-week minimum stay, be prepared for hardship conditions and clear a basic background check.
