SYRACUSE -- The Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse is to reopen after a power outage caused by a power line that was accidentally cut.
The power line was cut around 9 a.m. Thursday while construction work was going on near the zoo's front entrance. According to the zoo’s Facebook page, they are making improvements to the facilities. The project is expected to last about six months.
National Grid repaired the line and power was restored at about 9:45 p.m. Zoo director Ted Fox says public areas lost power but backup systems kept animals safe.
The zoo was scheduled to announce a new baby animal at 10 a.m. Thursday. The announcement was postponed due to the power outage.
The zoo will be open Friday.
