The "Pride of Auburn" David May was looking to make Central New York even more proud on Friday by making the cut at his first ever U.S. Open, but a bad start may have slowed him down a bit.

David May admitted that his biggest challenge on day one of his first ever U.S. Open would be keeping his emotions in check. It certainly seemed like he was doing that in the early going.

Auburn's David May has made it one of his missions this year to keep his emotions at an even keel, and to better manage the psychological aspect to his game of golf. Thursday will be the biggest test of his life at the U.S. Open.

David May finished in a tie for 7th place in a qualifier over the weekend, shooting a couple of 68's to finish at 5 under overall.
