The Syracuse football team rallied from a 15-point deficit with 11:02 remaining in the game to win its 2011 season opener in overtime, 36-29, against Wake Forest in front of 40,833 fans at the Carrier Dome on Thursday night.

The Orange opens the 2011 campaign against a BCS team in Wake Forest out of the ACC. The Demon Deacons are coming of a tough 3-9 campaign, but is just 5 years removed from a BCS appearance (2006 Orange Bowl loss to Louisville).

The 2011 Demon Deacons don’t appear, on paper anyway, to be as good as that 2006 squad that won the ACC title. Wake is coming off a 3-9 season and has several SU fans chalking this up as a win right away. Even CBS has the Deacs ranked 96th out of 120 FBS teams.
