Latavius Murray made his mark on CNY football fields in high school, and now he hopes to do the same on the area's biggest field, the Carrier Dome. The former Onondage Central standout rushed for over 2,000 yards in high school and was an absolute nightmare for pretty much every team the Tigers faced.
Murray's efforts earned him several scholarship offers, including one from SU, but in the end the Gatorade Player of the Year decided to accept a full-ride to Central Florida. His impact for the Knights was immediate, scoring two touchdowns in the season opening win over South Carolina State. The end of the year though wasn't so great, while playing in a pickup basketball game Murray landed akwardly on his right knee, tearing his ACL. After surgery and the prognosis that football was not an option in 2009, Latavius started debating his future, and how much he missed his home. He decided it was best to come back to CNY to rehab the injury and be closer to home.
Now that rehab for the very extensive injury is in full swing and he has received his release from UCF, Murray says he would like to play football at Syracuse University. He says he hasn't heard from the Orange coaching staff, and SU Athletics cannot comment on potential recruits, but it looks like it will be more of a wait-and-see approach for the prolific back. Murray though knows he's fighting his way back to the field, and hopes the Orange sees the same intensity and provides him another opportunity to play for the hometown team.
