SYRACUSE -- Mark DeAngelis is used to being on the football field. He's played with many of his Bishop Ludden teammates for the last six years. That bond made it all the much harder for Mark when he missed most of last year with an injury.
"You want to talk about pain? That was worse than anything for me. Just watching them out there. Even when they were winning, it was still tough. Knowing you were part of that at one point, and then you just faded away."
Bishop Ludden asked that Mark's injury not be specified for his own on-field safety. But Mark is back this year, and he says it feels great to be back on the field.
"I've been playing with these guys for about 6 years now and I think we've only lost 3 games total, so everything clicks when we're out on the field."
Things were clicking for DeAngelis last week, when he caught three passes for 118 yards and two touchdowns in his return to the field against Canastota. Head Coach John Cosgrove doesn't think the other team saw it coming.
"I think that was a combination of what the defense allowed us to do offensively. This game had played into Mark's hands and I don't think they were expecting him to be that big of an impact player."
After Mark's performance, it will be tough for him to surprise anyone else this year.
Congratulations to this week's Dunkin' Donuts Action News Athlete, Mark DeAngelis!
