Luke Smith had to brave the elements last week in his pursuit to qualify for the sectional golf tournament for the second year in a row. Not only did he advance, he placed second in the tournament by firing a 74. While Luke has shot that well before, in the tough weather conditions, he says that was pretty good.
“For the conditions we played in, it was really windy and raining, it was really cold, it’s fairly decent.”
Since sectionals aren't until May, Luke will have many months of practicing ahead of him, and his swing coach Jay Catalono says that shouldn’t be a problem.
“One of the great things about Luke is that you don’t have to push him to do this. He’s ready to go.”
Beyond all the practice and great scores, Luke mother, Diane Smith, says golfing has helped her son off the course as well.
“He’s really shown maturity through the sport of golf and just in day to day life. I think golf has really helped him grow as a person.”
Luke will travel to Seven Oaks golf course in Hamilton in May for the sectional tournament.
Congratulations to Luke Smith, this week’s Dunkin’ Donuts Action News Athlete.
