SYRACUSE -- Zach Dahlem has been through more than most experience in a lifetime. Zach has muscular dystrophy, a disease that weakens muscle tissue.
To date Zach has undergone 36 surgeries but that hasn't stopped him from living life to the fullest. Zach was named an honorary member of the Bishop Ludden Soccer team by Head Coach Oscar Vergara last season.
Zach is just as much a part of the team as any of the high school students. He's helped coach, and has even been on the field in the starting line-up at the beginning of the game.
Coach Vergara credits much of his team's success and maturity this season to Zach, who Vergara says has the unique ability to bring people together.
Zach had his 36th surgery on Tuesday. While most kids in his position would see it as a negative, Coach Vergaras says Zack just hopes he has a pretty nurse.
