SYRACUSE --
The Westhill Warriors avenge last year’s sectional loss to the Oneida Indians with a 33-6 win Friday night at Westhill High School. It was clear from the start that this game would be won on the ground as the wet conditions made it nearly impossible to throw the ball. The Warriors' senior running back Tyler Nigolian made sure that the rain would not hold them back, as he would rush for 230 yards and three scores. His third touchdown would come in the fourth quarter on a 71 yard run.
While Nigolian took care of things on offense, his brother Nathan Nigolian did on defense. The junior defensive back had two interceptions returning one all the way down to Oneida’s ten yard line. Warriors running back Jake Files would take care of the rest as on the next play from scrimmage he would run it in for ten yards out.
While Westhill head coach Danielle McFadden was worried about the conditions tonight he is very happy with the way his team responded.
“Everything played to their (Indians) favor, muddy night, grass field. We were worried about their power game and our guys came to play and we shut them down.”
Oneida finishes their season with a 4-4 record while Westhill improves to 8-0 and will take on the winner of Vernon Verona Sherrill and Homer. That game is scheduled for Saturday.
