SYRACUSE (AP) -- Guard Scoop Jardine recorded a double-double in just 18 minutes of action and freshman James Southerland had 19 points on perfect shooting as the Orange routed Division II Cal State Los Angeles 97-54 Sunday in a mens basketball exhibition game at the Carrier Dome.
Southerland was 7 of 7 from the field, including five three-pointers, to lead the Syracuse attack.
Reserve Kris Joseph tallied 13 points and Rick Jackson had 12.
Jardine, who had 11 assists in his first action after missing the entire 2008-2009 season due to a leg injury, and center Arinze Onuaku chipped in with 10 apiece.
Dwayne Jones led the Golden Eagles with 11.
The game marked the third time in the last four years Syracuse has hosted the Golden Eagles in an exhibition at the Dome. Cal State L.A., coming off a 12-15 record, is led by former Syracuse star Stephen Thompson.
The Orange held a slim 15-13 lead and then went on a 15-3 spurt to distance themselves from Cal State. Syracuse led 44-19 at the half and cruised the rest of the way.
The Orange has one more exhibition game Nov. 3 against Le Moyne College before opening its regular season Nov. 9 against the University of Albany in the first round of the 2K Sports Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.
Cal State has two more exhibitions before opening its regular season Nov. 17 against Hope International University.
