SYRACUSE -- Three Syracuse University football players have been suspended for a violation of team rules after State Police say they were involved in a car accident Sunday morning.

Troopers tell Action News that Orange players Andrew Tiller, Antwon Bailey, Torrey Ball and Mike Williams were involved in a minor car accident early in the morning on November 1st. According to police, the accident occurred at 5:20 AM in the westbound lane of the New York State Thruway near the Town of Lennox in Madison County.

Police say that a Mack truck driven by Nathan Primrose of Clyde rear-ended a 2002 Ford Suburban driven by Tiller and forced it off the road. Tiller was taken to University Hospital where he was treated and released for minor injuries. None of the other players were apparently injured in the crash.

Police say Tiller was not at fault and no tickets were issued. They also say that no alcohol was involved in the crash.

The SU Athletic Department issued a statement early Tuesday afternoon which said that Tiller, Bailey, and Ball will miss the team’s upcoming game at Pittsburgh on Saturday. The statement says that the three players had been “suspended for a violation of team rules” but did not go into further details.

Head Coach Doug Marrone announced Monday that Williams had left the team, saying "He walked up to me and voluntarily took himself off the team. That's it." Marrone did not elaborate on his conversation with Williams, saying he was not going to discuss it.

In other roster news, Marrone has announced that senior center Jim McKenzie will make his return on Saturday versus the Panthers. McKenzie has missed the last three games due to injury.

Marrone also announced that junior defensive end Jared Kimmel will have surgery to repair the same knee that was injured and surgically reconstructed in 2007. According to the school, Kimmel reported discomfort in his knee during the loss to Cincinnati last Saturday. The surgery will end Kimmel’s season.
