SYRACUSE -- If you asked a million people whether Syracuse would beat Le Moyne in basketball, 999,988 of those people would respond "yes". The other 12? Those are the Le Moyne players, who were unphased by the Carrier Dome, unphased by the average 42 point losses the last two years to Syracuse, and shocked the Orange 82-79 Tuesday night in an exhibition game.
Keep in mind, the game, was just that, an exhibition. Surely Jim Boeheim was tinkering with his lineup and tuning his team up for the season opener on Monday against Albany. But even so, it’s still an unbelievable game that Le Moyne played to be able to beat a nationally ranked Division I team.
What adds to the incredible nature of the game, was how the game ended. Syracuse was all but done for, trailing by five points late. They cut the deficit to two when Le Moyne had a chance to take a four point late but missed a wide open layup. The Orange drove the ball down the court and Wes Johnson nailed a three pointer to give Syracuse a 79-78 lead.
Just when Orange fans thought they could exhale, Le Moyne’s Chris Johnson sank a three at the other end, giving the Dolphins an 81-79 lead. Wes Johnson couldn’t convert a three to get the lead back, Le Moyne gathered the rebound and won the game 82-79.
We want to know what you think about the game. Vote in the poll below and tell us if you think Le Moyne’s win was the biggest upset ever for SU hoops.
