FLORHAM PARK, NJ (AP) -- New York Jets coach Rex Ryan has installed a code system with Mark Sanchez in an attempt to cut down the rookie quarterback's mistakes and provide him with a clearer idea of the tasks at hand.

Ryan said earlier in the week that he would take a greater role on the offensive side after focusing almost solely on defense. The code words - which Sanchez said probably wouldn't make sense to most others - are reminders of when the offense needs to be more cautious or can take some chances down the field.

Ryan said the procedure should help Sanchez become a better game manager. Sanchez has struggled after a terrific start. His 16 interceptions are the second most in the NFL, and his 61.1 quarterback rating is the worst of any starter.
