We all knew that Breanna Stewart was a special basketball player when she arrived on the varsity scene in eighth grade, we received further proof when she played for Team USA last summer and won a gold medal, and she continues to wow Section III hoops followers.

Stewart scored 19 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, blocked 10 shots, and dished out 7 assists in Cicero-North Syracuse's 70-40 win over Rome Free Academy. A triple double is extremely rare in high school, but Stewart was just three assists away from a quadruple-double!

By the way, Breanna is still a sophomore in high school, with the rest of this season plus her final two scholastic years to further develop before college.

Brittany Paul scored 25 points for the Northstars in the win.

Elsewhere in girls hoops, Marist-bound senior Leanne Ockenden scored 28 points, leading Christian Brothers Academy to a 61-48 win over Cortland. Michelle D'Amico scored 15 in the victory.

Meanwhile, in the past week, three Section III girls players have gotten past the 1,000 point milestone. Pulaski's Torie Hax, Fayetteville-Manlius's Emilie Trapani, and Solvay's Tessa Pucello, who is just 33 points away from the Bearcats' all time record all hit the mark.

The Jamesville-DeWitt boys team has a sophomore sensation playing beyond his years as well. DaJuan Coleman scored 19 points, including a big dunk as the first half ended as the Red Rams took out Cortland 71-53.

Elsewhere in boys hoops, Liverpool nipped Henninger 59-56, Connor Rogers scored 17 for the Warriors.

Bishop Ludden topped Fulton 56-46, with Jared Littlejohn leading the way with 19 points, future Siena baseball player John Rooney scored 17 in the victory.

The C-NS boys team went down to the wire with Rome Free Academy, but in the end a double-double (18 points, 12 rebounds) from Zach Coleman was enough to send the Northstars to a 56-52 win.
