BOSTON -- When Kris Joseph saw Wisconsin guard Jordan Taylor get free and pull up for what could have been a game winning three, he was just hoping his teammate Dion Waiters didn't foul Taylor on the attempt.
Wisconsin was down one and had already made 14 three pointers in the game - but Taylor's shot bounced out and a put back attempt by Wisconsin also missed.
After the game was over, SU guard Scoop Jardine talked about having to watch Wisconsin's star player take a final shot that could have ended Syracuse's tournament run and their season.
"People make shots, that's what the tournament is all about but I give my teammates a lot of credit because we made every stop down the stretch to win the game. Especially with a hot shooting team like that. That's really hard to do and i was really scared during that stretch. We got that stop and that's why we won the game," said Jardine.
Waiters made it tough for Taylor to get a clean look at the basket but when the ball was in the air.
"All you can do is pray right there. I think I prayed sixty times in two seconds," said Waiters.
SU advances to the Elite Eight and will play Ohio State on Saturday.
In the locker room after the game, Kris Joseph said he didn't know how to describe what the win meant to him.
"All season long we've faced a lot of adversity off the court, quieted a lot of critics this whole year - I'm happy enough to be blessed to be in this position," said Joseph.
