HAIFA, ISRAEL -- Former Syracuse Orange associate head basketball coach Bernie Fine has a new job.
Maccabi Bazan Haifa announced that Fine has been hired as a consultant to the Israeli Basketball Super League club. The team says Fine will be based in the U.S. According to the Maccabi Bazan Haifa website, Fine "will consult the Maccabi 'Bazan' Haifa management on player personnel decisions as well as the team’s coaching search for next season."
ESPN says Fine will work from Florida.
ESPN reporter Andy Katz tweeted Thursday morning that the team officially announced the hiring of Fine.
Fine worked for his alma mater for 36 straight seasons before he was fired in November amid allegations that he molested two former ball boys, Bobby Davis and Mike Lang.
Fine has denied any wrongdoing and no charges have been filed. An investigation into the case continues.
A third man, Zach Tomaselli, has also accused Fine of abuse, then recanted and un-recanted in recent weeks. A fourth accuser, Floyd VanHooser, admitted he was lying.
Orange head coach Jim Boeheim and his employer, Syracuse University, face a lawsuit from Davis and Lang after the stepbrothers say comments the coach made defending Fine defamed them. A motion by the defendants to dismiss that suit will be heard in New York State Supreme Court on Friday.
