Fabius Pompey pitcher Casey Blanck had more than one opponent in his Class C-2 Sectional Title game on Monday, as the 90 degree temperatures and fiesty Bishop Grimes baseball team combined for a real challenge.
"You've just got to do what you can to stay cool," Blanck said. "Stay hydrated and do the best you can to deal with the heat, and then deal with the opponent too."
Blanck showed some heat as well, holding Grimes without a hit for much of the game, as the Cobras were stymied by his ability to keep the ball low in the zone. Though the Cobras did tack on a few runs in the late innings in the comeback effort, Blanck and Fabius Pompey scraped out a 4-3 victory.
"Casey Blanck pitched a great game for us, on a really hot day," Fabius Pompey head coach Shawn May said. "Hats off the Bishop Grimes though, because they made some great plays to stop some big rallies."
Fabius Pompey now plays South Lewis at Alliance Bank Stadium on Thursday.
In Class B-1 Westhill raced past Utica-Notre Dame 12-3.
