Former SU Basketball star Scoop Jardine did not have the summer he was originally planning, mending a broken foot suffered just three days before the NBA Draft. The draft hopeful was working out for the Utah Jazz, looking to raise his draft stock, when he landed on the foot of Mississippi State guard Dee Bost and heard a snap. That snapped assured that he wasn't drafted, and prevented him from playing in the NBA's Summer League, what would have been a huge boost to get noticed and help to land on an NBA roster. While Jardine admits his injury has been a setback, he now knows he just needs to take a different route to the NBA.
"I was really bummed out in the beginning when I first did it," admits Jardine, "but it's the plan God had for me, and now it's just about adapting and trying to make the best of it."
Jardine, who is still wheeling around with no pressure on his right foot, hopes to be able to start walking and swimming around the 22nd of August. He says there's already been a lot of interest from NBA teams, including the Charlotte Bobcats who have invited him to their training camp.
"It all depends on me," says Scoop, " if I'm ready to play right away I'm going to do the training camp with the team, I think that's about a month. If I'm (not ready) I'm just going to rehab down there and work out with the team, whatever they want me to do."
