Car and a tractor trailer collided on Route 5 in the Town of Sennett.

SENNETT -- Police and rescue crews responded to the scene of a fatal car vs. tractor trailer crash in Cayuga County around 4:35 a.m. Wednesday morning. It happened near the interestion of Route 5 and Depot Road in the Town of Sennett
Police say a car driving east on Route 5 lost control of the vehicle and crossed into the path of a westbound tractor trailer, colliding with it head on. The tractor trailer pushed the car backward a few hundred yards and came to rest on top of the car.
Police say the driver of the car was killed in the crash. Timothy J. Walsh Jr., 20, of Auburn, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The tractor trailer was operated by James E. Feltenberger, 62, of Spring Mills, Pennsylvania. Feltenberger suffered minor injuries and was taken to Auburn Community Hospital.
Police say the tractor trailer was carrying liquid lime from Pennsylvania.
State Police, Cayuga County sheriff’s deputies, and Auburn Police responded along with fire and rescue teams.
Route 5 was closed in the area of Depot Road while emergency crews worked at the scene.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
