SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Freshman Jordan Vale (Auckland, New Zealand) registered his sixth goal of the season, but Louisville (7-4-0, 3-1-0 BIG EAST) scored twice to hand the SU men’s soccer team (8-4-0, 2-2-0 BIG EAST) a 2-1 setback on Saturday, Oct. 6 in front of a record crowd at SU Soccer Stadium.

“You have to give credit to this squad for pushing hard for the second goal.” SU head coach Ian McIntyre said. “We can learn a lot from Louisville. We’ve had a great season, and we’re looking to get some points in our next match.”

The Orange grabbed the lead initially in the third minute, when Vale headed in a Jordan Murrell (Markham, Ontario) corner kick. Vale flew to the ball and knocked it to the back of the net.

Louisville drew even in the 28th minute, as Greg Cochrane received the ball inside the box and tapped it by rookie goalkeeper Alex Bono (Baldwinsville, N.Y.).

The Cardinals added the game-winner in the 70th minute, when Zach Foxhoven drove the ball through the Syracuse defense and chipped it in from nine yards out.

Bono recorded four saves against the Cardinals. Louisville goalkeeper Mike Mauro had three saves, and picked up his fourth win of the season.

SU and the Cardinals each registered 13 shots, with Syracuse holding a 7-5 edge in the second half.

The Orange returns to the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 13 at USF. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at the Corbett Soccer Stadium.
