The Fowler High School soccer team was honored by Syracuse Mayor Stephanie A. Miner at City Hall on Wednesday for overcoming all odds to win the Section III championships and compete in the state semi-finals. The team is made up student athletes from eight different countries outside of the United States, many of them being refugees from Middle Eastern and African nations. They had all their success without a soccer field of their own, and very little equipment to start the season. Parents pitched in from a local neighborhood, while Nike donated balls and cleats for the team, while a local busing company donated transportation.

"The achievements of this team, both on and off the field, have been remarkable," said Mayor Miner. "These kids have the kind of resilience and tenacity that make this community such a unique and special place. They have made Syracuse their home and are thriving in our community. This team is our miracle on the field and a treasure to have."

Fowler finished with an overall record of 19-2, and were ranked fifth in the state for most of the season.
