The next head football coach at Syracuse University is likely to be defensive coordinator Scott Shafer, according to Donnie Webb of the Post Standard. Darius Kelly, a recruit from Arizona who has signed to play for the Orange, told Webb that he was told by Syracuse assistant coach Donnie Henderson that Shafer is being promoted to take over for Doug Marrone, who was announced as the Buffalo Bills new head coach on Monday.
"He basically told me Shafer is going to be the coach for now," Kelly told the Post Standard, "They plan on announcing that Sunday."
There is no confirmation from SU Athletics, but Gross is quoted as saying "We are not doing a search for that new guy to give us hope for the future. This team we have has already shown hope for future."
According to Kelly, the Shafer announcement is expected this Sunday.
