A mother’s decision to create a cell phone code of conduct for her son is going viral.
Janell Burley Hofmann gave her 13-year-old son an iPhone for Christmas, but it came with strings attached. The mommy blogger created 18 rules in an outlined code of conduct. It is igniting a debate over whether parents should allow their children to have access to cell phones and other gadgets and how they should use them. In a note to her son, Hofmann said, "I hope that you understand it is my job to raise you into a well rounded, healthy young man that can function in the world and coexist with technology, not be ruled by it. Failure to comply with the following list will result in termination of your iPhone ownership," she wrote.
The rules state that she will always know the phone's password. He has to turn it in every night at 7:30pm on school nights and 9 p.m. on weekends.
