Brand new SU football head coach Scott Shafer was dealt a tough blow on Saturday when his top recruit, Texas quarterback Zach Allen, announced he's heading to TCU instead.

Allen tweeted Saturday afternoon when reports started surfacing about the change.

"I committed to TCU. I had been loyal the whole time and have done everything I could for Cuse. They changed the deal with coaches leaving"

The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Allen told Post Standard football beat writer Nolan Weidner,

"There's just a lot of uncertainties right now at Syracuse University with the offensive coordinator. A chance to play in the Big 12, with TCU closer to my family (home) played a big part in this. They'd love to come watch me play every game, and it would be hard to do that in New York.

"I wish Syracuse the best of luck. I just don't think it was the right time to go there because of all of the uncertainties. I'm still a Syracuse fan."

Allen, who committed to SU Football back in May, visited TCU on Friday to confirm his decision.
